Inking with a brush instead of a dip pen, because “try new and uncomfortable things” is how we do things around here. (see also: karaoke, starting conversations with attractive strangers, and putting pomade in my hair.) Exciting line variation and texture, but tough for the unsteady-handed.

  • Question: Found one of your Cabin Pressure pieces and now drooling over the rest of your art. I'd like to hug your watercolors. - adjustedfangirl
  • Answer:

Thank you! I think that would be very messy, though.

  • Question: Hi you don't know me but I'm kind of in love with you on the basis of your art and the fact that you're a Sherlockian. Just thought I'd let you know. Okay bye - Anonymous
  • Answer:

I dunno about you, but that sounds like a solid basis for a relationship to me.

  • Question: That dry brush of Sherlock Holmes really rustled my jimmies. - carpaltunnelvision
  • Answer:

Whatever ruffles those feathers, baby. You need to post more art.

Obviously I’ve been too busy to post anything useful lately but I hate this trend so much that I felt the need to actively spend time on how much I hate it. Is this just an NYC thing or is it everywhere? They’re like the color of tongues. All I see when I go down the street is endless pairs of walking tongues.
Super-shaky lines on account of too much caffeine today, but I kinda like it.

Drawings for Unsolicited stuck up on my ‘in-progress’ wall. Each is 6x6 inches, ink with a few splashes of cadmium red here and there.
p.s. if you show up, I’ll be the androgyne in a blazer with Don Draper hair.

Right, so in addition to nine-to-fiveing for The Man I also part-time for this awesome little start-up called Writer’s Bloq. We’re basically a platform for forming an online workshopping community for writers—here’s an article on AWP that explains things further.
On Thursday we’re doing a reading/mingling at The Strand in Manhattan and there are still some tickets around so if you’re in the NYC area and into storytelling and drunk literary types, come say hello! There will be beer from Brooklyn Brewery, snacks, tea tastings by Argo, raffles to win some fancy swag and a stay at the unthinkably cool Library Hotel, ink portraits by Our Hero, and the opportunity to awkwardly introduce yourself to me as being “from the internet”. Did I mention TEA TASTINGS? Also there will be an afterparty at the Revival Bar around Union Square.
Here’s the event page with more info and a link to get tickets if you’re into it.
